The Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park is off the Stuart Highway, 30km north of the Opal capital of the world - Coober Pedy. This is the traditional country of the Antakirinja Matuntjara Yankunytjatjara people.
As with much of Australia this area was once the bed of a body of water. Over the years the water dissipated giving rise to majestic rock formations. The Breakaways (as the name suggests) are a series of flat topped mountains that have broken away from the main mountain range.
there is two ways to see and experience the Breakaways. From the ground level and from the top of one of the lookout point located at higher ground. This picture was taken from the former perspective.
